Bulnesia sarmientoi
10-20€ / 10ml

Guaiac wood comes from a South American tree whose wood is so dense it sinks in water. The Guarani peoples of Paraguay called it 'lignum vitae' (wood of life) and used it to treat joint pain and infections. The Spanish imported it to Europe in the 16th century as a remedy for syphilis, a reputation that lasted for centuries. Guaiac wood is also used to make boat bearings and bowling balls due to its natural self-lubrication.
Guaiac wood is one of the essential oils richest in guaiol, a sesquiterpenol with anti-inflammatory and venous decongestant properties. Its semi-solid consistency at room temperature is characteristic: the bottle must be warmed to obtain a liquid. Its scent is unique, at once woody, smoky and slightly vanilla, highly prized in perfumery as a base note. It is also an endangered species, listed under CITES.
Les propriétés listées reposent sur des études in vitro et/ou un usage traditionnel. Sauf mention contraire, elles n'ont pas été validées par des essais cliniques humains rigoureux. Ces informations ne constituent pas un avis médical.
