Vetiver is a tropical grass native to India, where it is called 'khus'. Its deep roots (up to 3 meters) have been used for centuries to stabilize soil against erosion, filter water and scent homes. In traditional India, blinds were woven from vetiver roots and moistened -- the scented evaporation cooled the air (the ancestor of air conditioning). Haiti is now the world's leading producer of vetiver for perfumery. The essential oil is obtained by distilling the roots, a long process (24-36h).
Vetiver is one of the most viscous and olfactively complex essential oils -- over 150 molecules identified. Its earthy, smoky and woody scent is a powerful olfactory 'anchor'. In psycho-emotional aromatherapy, it is the grounding essential oil -- it helps feel 'connected to the earth'. It is also a powerful nervous system sedative, useful for anxious or scattered people.

Vetiver is an essential oil of deep relaxation. Its viscosity makes it difficult to dose -- warming the bottle in your hands before use helps the drop fall. In diffusion, use only 1-2 drops (very powerful scent). Topically, dilute to 2-5% in a carrier oil. Application under the soles of the feet is the classic use for grounding and calm.

Vetiver essential oil is distilled from the roots of the plant, which grow up to 3 meters deep. This earthy scent comes from vetiverol and vetivone. The oil improves with age -- aged vetiver (2-3 years) is smoother and less raw. It is the most 'grounding' of all essential oils.
Yes, vetiver is regenerating, healing and toning. It is particularly useful for scars, stretch marks and mature skin. Apply 1-2 drops in carrier oil. It is also used for circulation to relieve heavy legs.
