Cedrus atlantica
5-10€ / 10ml

Atlas cedar is a majestic tree growing in the Atlas Mountains of Morocco, between 1300 and 2200 m altitude. Egyptians used cedar oil for embalming and papyrus making. Cedar wood was so precious that Solomon chose it to build his temple in Jerusalem. Today, Atlas cedar forests are protected as the species is threatened by deforestation and climate change. Morocco remains the only significant producer of Atlas cedar essential oil.
Atlas cedar stands out from other cedars (Virginia, Himalaya) by its richness in atlantone, a sesquiterpenic ketone with lipolytic properties (that 'breaks down' fat). This is why it is widely used in slimming and anti-cellulite treatments in aromatherapy. Caution: this same molecule makes it abortifacient, hence the strict prohibition during pregnancy.
Les propriétés listées reposent sur des études in vitro et/ou un usage traditionnel. Sauf mention contraire, elles n'ont pas été validées par des essais cliniques humains rigoureux. Ces informations ne constituent pas un avis médical.

Two main uses: slimming/cellulite (diluted to 5% in massage with draining carrier oils like tamanu) and hair care (hair loss, oily hair). Its lipolytic action is enhanced by massage that activates local circulation. In diffusion, its warm woody scent creates a masculine and soothing atmosphere. Cedar wood is also a natural moth repellent.

It is one of the most commonly used essential oils in anti-cellulite protocols. Atlantones stimulate lipolysis and lymphatic drainage. Use 3-5 drops in 2 tablespoons of tamanu or hazelnut carrier oil, massage the thighs morning and evening.
Yes, but Virginia cedar is more renowned as an insect repellent. Atlas cedar is more therapeutically oriented (circulation, cellulite, skin). For moths, prefer Virginia cedar or lavender.
The ketones (atlantones) in Atlas cedar have abortifacient potential. It is strictly not recommended throughout pregnancy and breastfeeding. Children under 6 years old should also avoid it.
