Pelargonium graveolens
8-18€ / 10ml

Rose geranium is not a true geranium -- it is a Pelargonium, native to South Africa, introduced to Europe in the 17th century. Reunion Island (Bourbon Island) became a major production center, giving rise to the 'bourbon geranium' name, prized in perfumery. On Reunion, geranium cultivation replaced coffee growing in the 19th century and was the island's main source of wealth for nearly a century. Today, Egypt and Madagascar are the main producers, but bourbon remains the most esteemed among connoisseurs.
Rose geranium features a near-perfect balance between monoterpenols (citronellol, geraniol) and esters (citronellyl formate). This profile gives it both anti-infectious and antispasmodic properties. It is also an excellent mosquito repellent, rivaling citronella but with a much more pleasant scent -- floral and rosy.

Rose geranium is remarkably versatile in skincare: it regulates sebum in oily skin, soothes sensitive skin and tones mature skin. Applied diluted at 2-5% in a carrier oil, it promotes healing and helps reduce stretch marks. Its antifungal action makes it an ally against fungal infections. In diffusion, its floral scent repels mosquitoes while pleasantly perfuming the home.

Excellent. It is one of the most versatile essential oils in dermocosmetics: anti-wrinkle, toning, healing, balancing (for both oily and dry skin). Add 2-3 drops to your night cream or to rosehip carrier oil.
Yes, the citronellol and geraniol it contains are recognized natural repellents. Mix 5 drops of geranium + 5 drops of citronella in 30ml of carrier oil for effective protection. Reapply every 2-3 hours.
Both are high quality, but Bourbon (Reunion/Madagascar) is considered more refined olfactorily, with more pronounced rose notes. Egypt produces in larger quantities, often at more affordable prices. Therapeutically, they are nearly interchangeable.
