Goldenrod, or solidago, carries in its Latin name the promise of its therapeutic vocation: 'solidare' means 'to make solid, to consolidate'. Native Americans employed it as a poultice on wounds and in infusion for urinary problems. European settlers discovered it with astonishment and sent it back to Europe. Herbalists of the 19th century recommended it as 'the plant of the kidneys', a reputation it still holds in contemporary herbal medicine.

Where most essential oils act mainly on the respiratory or skin sphere, solidago specifically targets the urinary sphere and the liver. Goldenrod is mainly used topically diluted, targeting organ projection zones: lower back for kidneys, right hypochondrium for liver, lower abdomen for prostate. Dilute to 5-10% in a draining carrier oil (hazelnut, tamanu). Courses are generally 10 to 21 days with a one-week break. Drink plenty of water during a cure to support the diuretic effect. Avoid in cases of confirmed kidney failure.
