Rosemary verbenone is the quintessential Corsican chemotype -- it grows mainly in the Corsican maquis, between 200 and 600 m altitude. The specific conditions of the island (granitic soils, sea winds, sunshine) direct the biochemical production toward verbenone rather than cineole or camphor. It is the rarest and most expensive of the three rosemary chemotypes. In traditional Corsican medicine, it was used to 'cleanse the liver' and treat chronic respiratory infections.
Rosemary verbenone is the only rosemary with a dual hepatoprotective AND mucolytic action. Verbenone is a gentle ketone that thins bronchial secretions without the toxicity of more powerful ketones (thujone, pinocamphone). It is also the reference essential oil for 'liver detox' in aromatherapy -- often prescribed in spring cures to regenerate the liver after winter.

Rosemary verbenone is used in 2-3 week courses for the liver (1 drop in the morning in carrier oil) or in chest massage for chronic bronchitis with congestion. Caution: despite its relative gentleness, it remains NEUROTOXIC at high doses (ketone) and ABORTIFACIENT. Strictly prohibited during pregnancy, breastfeeding and in children under 6 years.
