Turnera diffusa

Damiana is a living legend of Mexican herbal medicine. This small aromatic plant grows wild in the arid hills of Mexico. The Mayas already used it as a tonic and aphrodisiac, and the Aztecs considered it a gift from Xochiquetzal, the goddess of love and beauty. The legend has it that the first Mexican margarita cocktail contained damiana, and a damiana-based liqueur still exists in Mexico today.
Damiana is distinguished in aromatherapy as one of the rare essential oils with documented aphrodisiac action. Its mechanism combines a tonic effect on the nervous system with mild vasodilating and anxiolytic action -- a trio that naturally favors libido by reducing stress and fatigue. Unlike ylang-ylang (aphrodisiac through scent) or clary sage (through hormonal action), damiana acts on a more global level, both nervous and circulatory.
Les propriétés listées reposent sur des études in vitro et/ou un usage traditionnel. Sauf mention contraire, elles n'ont pas été validées par des essais cliniques humains rigoureux. Ces informations ne constituent pas un avis médical.

Damiana is used topically diluted to 3-5% and in atmospheric diffusion. For aphrodisiac uses, favor body massage with warming carrier oils (sesame, hazelnut) on reflex zones: lower back, lower abdomen, inner wrists. Courses should not exceed 3 consecutive weeks. Avoid in the evening if sleep problems are present, as its tonic effect may delay falling asleep in some people.

That is its main traditional reputation in Mexico and Central America. Turnera diffusa has been used for centuries as a tonic and aphrodisiac. The essential oil is used in massage of the lower abdomen and in diffusion. The effect is likely related to its stress-reducing action.
It has a paradoxical action: it calms anxiety while boosting libido and energy. This combination makes it interesting for people whose desire is blocked by stress. In diffusion or on the solar plexus.
Little documented toxicologically in essential oil form. Standard precautions. The plant in herbal medicine is well studied and safe. The essential oil should be used externally and in diffusion, in standard doses.
