Salvia sclarea
10-20€ / 10ml

Its name comes from the Latin 'clarus' (clear) because it was used in the Middle Ages to clarify sight. NOT to be confused with Salvia officinalis (common sage) which contains neurotoxic ketones. Clary sage is much safer, with a profile dominated by linalyl acetate. Traditionally associated with femininity and hormonal cycles. Its musky, warm and slightly intoxicating scent is unique.
Contains sclareol, a diterpene with estrogen-like properties. An ally for female disorders (PMS, perimenopause) but strictly contraindicated in cases of hormone-dependent cancer. It perfectly illustrates the principle: a molecule beneficial in one context can be dangerous in another.

It contains sclareol, a molecule with estrogen-like action that partially mimics the effects of estrogens. It is traditionally used for irregular periods, menopausal hot flashes and premenstrual syndrome. Contraindicated in cases of hormone-dependent cancer.
Common sage contains thujone, a neurotoxic and abortifacient molecule -- it is very dangerous and reserved for professionals only. Clary sage does NOT contain thujone and is much safer. Never confuse the two.
That is its traditional reputation. Its musky, herbaceous scent is said to stimulate libido. Massaged diluted on the lower abdomen, it relaxes and disinhibits. The effect is likely related to its ability to reduce stress and tension.
