Tagetes minuta
8-18€ / 10ml

Tagetes (Tagetes minuta), not to be confused with common garden marigold (Tagetes erecta), is a plant native to South America. The Incas used it as a natural insecticide and to treat skin infections. The conquistadors brought it back to Europe, and it then naturalized in Africa, where it became a major aromatic plant. In South Africa, it is called 'khaki bush' because it grew on the battlefields of the Boer War. Its essential oil has an intense yellow-orange color due to tagetones.
Tagetes contains tagetones (ketones) and ocimenones that give it an exceptional antifungal power -- one of the most powerful in the plant kingdom, rivaling tea tree. It is the reference essential oil for resistant fungal infections, warts and keratoses. But caution: it is VERY photosensitizing (contains furocoumarins) and neurotoxic (ketones). Use under supervision, minimal dilution, NEVER before sun exposure.
Les propriétés listées reposent sur des études in vitro et/ou un usage traditionnel. Sauf mention contraire, elles n'ont pas été validées par des essais cliniques humains rigoureux. Ces informations ne constituent pas un avis médical.

Tagetes is a SPECIALIST essential oil for fungal infections and resistant skin lesions. Application ONLY in the evening (photosensitizing). Dilute to 2-3% maximum except for very localized application (wart). Courses of 3 weeks max. Prohibited in children, pregnant women and epileptics. If a common fungal infection resists tea tree, tagetes is the next step -- but with caution.
Similar family but different plants. Tagetes (Tagetes minuta) produces a yellowish essential oil rich in tagetone (a ketone). Marigold (Calendula officinalis) produces a macerated oil, not an essential oil. Do not confuse them.
Tagetes is traditionally used for calluses, warts and corns. Tagetone has keratolytic properties (dissolves hardened skin). Apply 1 drop neat on the lesion, protecting healthy surrounding skin. For adults only.
Tagetone is a ketone: potentially neurotoxic in high doses. Contraindicated in pregnant women, children and epileptics. Also photosensitizing. For adults only, topically on small areas, in short courses.
