Abies sibirica
5-10€ / 10ml

Siberian fir grows in the immense forests of the taiga, from the Urals to Mongolia. In these infinite expanses, winters drop to -50 degrees C -- and the tree survives thanks to aromatic compounds that protect its needles from frost. Siberian shamans used its needles in fumigation to purify yurts and the sick. In traditional Russia, steam baths (banya) always included fir branches for their respiratory and toning virtues.
Siberian fir stands out for its richness in bornyl acetate (25-40%), an ester with both relaxing and respiratory properties. It is the most 'zen' conifer -- where Scots pine tones and black spruce boosts the adrenals, Siberian fir soothes while helping you breathe. Its scent is softer and more 'enveloping' than Douglas.
