Green oregano (Origanum heracleoticum) is a Mediterranean herb used in Greek and Italian cuisine since Antiquity. It is less aggressive than compact oregano but still possesses useful anti-infectious properties. The ancient Greeks used it to flavor meats and treat respiratory ailments.
Green oregano is milder than compact oregano, with a more balanced profile of carvacrol and thymol at lower concentrations. It sits between compact oregano (very powerful) and kaliteri (very gentle) in terms of potency and safety.

Green oregano (Origanum heracleoticum) is a Greek/Mediterranean oregano, sometimes considered a variety of Origanum vulgare. Its carvacrol content varies but is generally lower than compact oregano, making it slightly milder.
Generally less concentrated in carvacrol, so slightly less potent. Sufficient for moderate infections. For severe infections, compact oregano (O. compactum) remains the reference. Check the carvacrol percentage on the analysis sheet.
Same precautions as other oreganos with phenol content: dermocaustic, hepatotoxic in excess, adults only, short courses. The lower phenol concentration makes it slightly better tolerated but caution remains essential.
