Citrus reticulata Blanco

The mandarin is the oldest citrus cultivated in China, where it was offered to the mandarins -- the high officials of the Empire -- hence its name. Introduced to Europe at the beginning of the 19th century, it took root in Sicily and Corsica. The red mandarin is the mandarin picked at full maturity, when the skin has turned from green to red-orange. Its essence is softer and fruitier than the green, with almost caramelized notes. It is traditionally the essence of pregnancy and childhood in aromatherapy.
Red mandarin differs from green by a higher proportion of methyl-N-methylanthranilate, the molecule responsible for its fruity, almost hypnotic fragrance. In aromatherapy, red is more sedative and calming, green is more digestive and stimulating. It is also one of the rare essences authorized in diffusion during pregnancy from the first trimester.
