Citrus reticulata
5-12€ / 10ml

The mandarin takes its name from the Chinese mandarins to whom it was offered as a gift. It is the oldest citrus cultivated in China, mentioned in medical texts for over 3000 years. Green mandarin (harvested before maturity) is more aromatic than red. In traditional Chinese medicine, dried mandarin peel (chenpi) is one of the 50 fundamental ingredients. It is the best-tolerated calming essential oil for children.
Among all citrus essential oils, green mandarin is the gentlest and best tolerated, even in very young children (from 3 months in very gentle diffusion). Its fruity and sweet scent is universally appreciated, which facilitates acceptance by children. Caution: like all citrus peels, it is photosensitizing.

Green mandarin is the quintessential calming and sedative essential oil for children and sensitive individuals. In diffusion (3-5 drops, 10-15 min), it helps with falling asleep and calms agitation. Topically (beware photosensitization), it is used diluted to 2-5% in massage for insomnia and anxiety. Very popular in cooking to flavor desserts (1 drop is enough).
Green mandarin is picked before maturity. It is more tonic and more digestive, with more gamma-terpinene. Red mandarin is more sedative and calming, with more limonene. For sleep, prefer the red. For digestion and good mood, choose the green.
In diffusion only, green mandarin is generally tolerated from the first trimester of pregnancy. It is one of the rare essences allowed that early. Avoid skin application during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
Diffuse for 15 minutes before bedtime to calm restlessness. From age 1 in diffusion, from age 3 in very diluted skin application (1-2% in a carrier oil). Its fruity scent is generally very popular with children.
