Mastic or lentisk grows in the Mediterranean maquis (Corsica, Greece, Morocco). On the island of Chios (Greece), lentisk resin -- 'mastic of Chios' -- is a Protected Designation of Origin product used since Antiquity as chewing gum, digestive and oral antiseptic. The essential oil is distilled from the leafy branches.
Mastic is the MOST POWERFUL VENOUS AND LYMPHATIC DECONGESTANT in aromatherapy. It surpasses cypress for venous and lymphatic stasis problems (heavy legs, hemorrhoids, varicose veins, edema). It is also the first choice for prostate decongestion.
