Cymbopogon citratus

Lemongrass (Indian citronella) is a tropical grass cultivated in India, Guatemala and Brazil. It should not be confused with Java citronella (Cymbopogon winterianus), although they are in the same family. In Asian cuisine, fresh lemongrass is an essential ingredient in Thai soups and curries. In Ayurvedic medicine, it has been used for centuries to treat fevers and infections. Its very low price makes it one of the most accessible essential oils.
Lemongrass contains 70-80% citral (geranial + neral), making it both very effective as an anti-inflammatory and very irritating to the skin. Dilution is crucial -- max 1% for skin application. Unlike Java citronella (mainly anti-mosquito), lemongrass is more oriented toward anti-inflammatory and vasodilatory uses.
Les propriétés listées reposent sur des études in vitro et/ou un usage traditionnel. Sauf mention contraire, elles n'ont pas été validées par des essais cliniques humains rigoureux. Ces informations ne constituent pas un avis médical.
