Cymbopogon nardus
3-8€ / 10ml

Ceylon citronella (Cymbopogon nardus) is the 'little sister' of Java citronella (Cymbopogon winterianus). Native to Sri Lanka (formerly Ceylon), it is cultivated throughout tropical Asia. Its lemon scent is less intense than Java's -- it is softer, more herbaceous, with floral notes. Traditionally, Sri Lankans planted citronella around houses to repel mosquitoes and snakes.
Ceylon citronella contains 20-30% geraniol (vs 15-20% for Java) and only 10-20% citronellal (vs 30-40% for Java). Citronellal is the main mosquito repellent -- which means Ceylon is LESS effective as a mosquito repellent than Java. However, its richness in geraniol makes it gentler on the skin and more antibacterial. It is the alternative for sensitive skin that cannot tolerate Java.

Ceylon citronella is mainly used in diffusion (anti-insect, purification) and diluted skin application (repellent, mild anti-inflammatory). Less powerful than Java as a repellent, it is more pleasant olfactively and gentler on the skin. For maximum repellent effect, choose Java. For gentle family use and a more refined scent, choose Ceylon.

Les huiles essentielles suivantes se combinent particuli\u00e8rement bien avec citronnelle de ceylan pour renforcer ou compl\u00e9ter ses effets :
Same genus (Cymbopogon) but different species. Ceylon (C. nardus) is softer, with more geraniol. Java (C. winterianus) is more effective as a repellent, with more citronellal. For mosquito repellent, prefer Java. For a pleasant scent, Ceylon.
Yes, its softer, more floral scent is more pleasant in diffusion than Java citronella. It repels mosquitoes while perfuming the room pleasantly. Combines well with geranium and lemongrass for a synergistic repellent blend.
Less than Java citronella (less citronellal) but it still has anti-inflammatory properties. In massage diluted to 5-10%, it can relieve mild joint and muscle pain. Prefer Java or lemon eucalyptus for stronger anti-inflammatory effect.
