One of Europe's oldest spices. Seeds found in Swiss Neolithic sites 5000 years old. In the Middle Ages, widely cultivated in Germany, the Netherlands and Scandinavia for bread, cheese and aquavit. The traditional Scandinavian liqueur owes its taste to caraway. In Germanic folk medicine, a reference remedy against infant colic.
Rich in D-carvone (50-80%), the same molecule as spearmint but in dextrorotatory form. Warm and spicy scent. More digestive than dill (gentler), less estrogenic than fennel (trans-anethole). The quintessential family digestive in the Germanic tradition.

Excellent. Carvone (50-65%) is a powerful carminative and antispasmodic. It reduces bloating, gas and intestinal cramps. Traditionally used in bread and cheese in Central Europe to aid digestion. 1 drop in honey after meals.
No! Caraway (Carum carvi) and cumin (Cuminum cyminum) are different plants despite their visual resemblance. Different essential oils, different scents, different properties. Caraway is more digestive, cumin more warming.
Carvone is non-neurotoxic (unlike other ketones). Well tolerated for adults. Not recommended during pregnancy by precaution. Usable from age 6 diluted. Moderate price (8-15 EUR/10ml).
