Thymus satureioides
8-18€ / 10ml

Borneol thyme (Thymus satureioides) is a Moroccan thyme that grows in the semi-arid regions of the High Atlas and Anti-Atlas. It is a chemotype specific to Morocco, where extreme climatic conditions (heat, drought, calcareous soils) direct the biochemistry toward borneol. Moroccan herbalists have used it for centuries as a universal anti-infectious and tonic. In the souks of Marrakech, it is sold under the name 'zaatar' (which designates several North African thymes).
Borneol thyme occupies an intermediate place between thymol thyme (very powerful, skin-burning) and linalool thyme (gentle, family-friendly). Its borneol gives it anti-infectious and immunostimulant properties without the extreme skin-burning nature of pure thymol. However, it also contains thymol and carvacrol in variable amounts, requiring careful dilution. It is the thyme for serious infections in adults, when linalool thyme is not enough but thymol is too aggressive.
