Lemon tea tree (Leptospermum petersonii) is an Australian tree from the same family as manuka. It releases an intense lemon scent when its leaves are crushed. Aborigines used it as poultices on wounds and inflammations. It is a relatively recent essential oil in the Western pharmacopoeia.
Lemon tea tree has NOTHING in common with classic tea tree (Melaleuca alternifolia). It is rich in citral and citronellal, which brings it closer to lemon eucalyptus and lemongrass -- not tea tree. Anti-inflammatory and mosquito repellent, it is an olfactory false friend.
