Satureja montana
8-18€ / 10ml

Mountain savory (Satureja montana) grows in the garrigues of southern France and Spain. Its Latin name 'Satureja' may come from 'satyr' because Romans considered it an aphrodisiac (the satyrs of mythology being creatures with insatiable sexual appetites). In Provencal cuisine, it is an essential aromatic herb -- it is part of the 'bouquet garni' and accompanies dried vegetables (hence its nickname 'donkey pepper'). In aromatherapy, it is one of the most powerful anti-infectious agents.
Mountain savory contains 30-45% carvacrol (like compact oregano), making it a major anti-infectious with a very broad spectrum. But it also contains 15-20% thymol and p-cymene, which makes it potentially MORE powerful than oregano alone. It is the essential oil of last resort for severe infections. The same precautions apply: SKIN-BURNING, hepatotoxic, reserved for adults.
Les propriétés listées reposent sur des études in vitro et/ou un usage traditionnel. Sauf mention contraire, elles n'ont pas été validées par des essais cliniques humains rigoureux. Ces informations ne constituent pas un avis médical.

Almost. Mountain savory contains 30-50% carvacrol, slightly less than oregano (40-80%), but it is also a major anti-infectious agent. Same precautions: dermocaustic, hepatotoxic, adults only, short courses. It is an oregano alternative.
Only very diluted (max 5%) in a carrier oil. Like oregano, it is extremely dermocaustic neat. Oral use in capsules is preferred for internal infections. In massage, always blend with calming essential oils (lavender, tea tree) to reduce irritation.
Severe and resistant infections: urinary, intestinal, gynecological. It is used as a 'heavy artillery' when milder essential oils have failed. Always in short courses (7-10 days maximum) and under professional supervision.
