Abies alba
5-12€ / 10ml

White fir (Abies alba) is the emblematic tree of European mountain forests -- Vosges, Jura, Alps, Pyrenees. It can reach 60 meters in height and live 500 years. Germanic and Celtic peoples considered it sacred, linked to the winter solstice -- it is the ancestor of the Christmas tree. Fir resin was used to make ointments for respiratory ailments.
Distinguished from balsam fir and black spruce by a gentler and more balanced profile. Its richness in alpha-pinene (up to 53%) gives it a marked respiratory decongestant effect, without the camphorous intensity of eucalyptus. More forest-like and less stimulating than Scots pine.

Yes. Silver fir (Abies alba) is European (Alps, Vosges), balsam fir (Abies balsamea) is North American. Silver fir has more alpha-pinene, balsam fir has more bornyl acetate (more relaxing). Both are good respiratory essential oils.
In diffusion from age 6, yes. In skin application, always dilute well (5-10%) as pinenes can be irritating. Not recommended for asthmatics. Its fresh, forest scent is generally well appreciated.
