Ravensara aromatica
8-15€ / 10ml

Ravensara (Ravensara aromatica) is often confused with ravintsara (Cinnamomum camphora) -- a confusion that has caused many errors. They are two DIFFERENT trees from Madagascar. Ravensara is a Ravensara, ravintsara is a Cinnamomum. Ravensara is rich in sabinene and limonene, not in 1,8-cineole.
Ravensara has a completely different biochemical profile from ravintsara. It is less powerful as an antiviral but has its own tonic and muscular properties. The confusion between the two is one of the most common in aromatherapy.

No, and the confusion has caused many problems. Ravensara aromatica contains methyl chavicol (estragole). Ravintsara (Cinnamomum camphora ct. cineole) contains 1,8-cineole. Completely different plants and properties. Always check the Latin name.
Ravensara aromatica (true ravensara) is used for viral infections, fatigue and immune stimulation. But it is much less documented than ravintsara. Some experts consider that many 'ravensara' studies were actually done on ravintsara.
Methyl chavicol is potentially carcinogenic in high doses and prolonged use (like in tropical basil). Short courses and moderate doses. For respiratory infections, prefer ravintsara which is better documented and safer.
