Lavandula stoechas
10-22€ / 10ml

French lavender (Lavandula stoechas) is the 'butterfly lavender' -- recognizable by its violet petal-like bracts at the top of the spike. It grows around the Mediterranean, from Portugal to Lebanon, at low altitude, in maquis and garrigues. Romans used it to perfume thermal baths. Its name comes from the Stoechades islands (the Hyeres islands, off Toulon). But CAUTION: this is the lavender that has NOTHING in common with true lavender in terms of safety. It is a ketone, not an ester -- and that changes everything.
French lavender contains fenchone and camphor -- neurotoxic ketones totally absent from true lavender. It is a powerful mucolytic (thins bronchial secretions), often used for otitis and chronic sinusitis. But the ketones make it NEUROTOXIC at high doses or with prolonged use. NEVER use it as if it were true lavender -- the safety profiles are radically different.

French lavender is a SPECIALIST essential oil, not for everyday use. Its main indication: chronic otitis and sinusitis with congestion, in adults only. Always in short courses (5-7 days max). NEVER in children, pregnant women, epileptics. NEVER in prolonged diffusion. If you are looking for a gentle and versatile lavender, take true lavender -- not this one.
No, it is the most dangerous lavender! Rich in fenchone and camphor (neurotoxic ketones), it is contraindicated in pregnant women, children and epileptics. Nothing like the gentleness of true lavender. Strictly for informed adults only.
Its ketone content makes it mucolytic (dissolves mucus) and cicatrizing. Used for chronic sinusitis and poorly healing wounds by experienced aromatherapists. Never for relaxation or sleep -- use true lavender for that.
Stoechas lavender (Lavandula stoechas) has distinctive 'rabbit ear' petals on top of the flower spike. Its scent is more camphoraceous and less floral. Always check the Latin name: stoechas = caution, angustifolia = safe.
