Inula graveolens
20-40€ / 10ml

Fragrant inula (Inula graveolens) grows in Corsica and Sardinia, in maquis and old fallow land. Not to be confused with elecampane (Inula helenium), a different and more toxic plant. Fragrant inula is nicknamed the 'queen of mucolysis' in aromatherapy -- it is considered the most powerful mucolytic in the plant kingdom, capable of thinning the thickest bronchial secretions.
Fragrant inula contains bornyl acetate and borneol, but it is especially its sesquiterpene lactones that make it unique. These lactones are mucolytics of exceptional power, superior to all other aromatic mucolytics. This is why inula is reserved for chronic bronchitis with severe congestion -- a situation where classic essential oils (eucalyptus, ravintsara) are no longer sufficient.
Les propriétés listées reposent sur des études in vitro et/ou un usage traditionnel. Sauf mention contraire, elles n'ont pas été validées par des essais cliniques humains rigoureux. Ces informations ne constituent pas un avis médical.

Sweet inula is the specialist essential oil for chronic respiratory conditions. Bornyl acetate and lactones give it a unique mucolytic and antispasmodic action. Where other essential oils relieve acute crises, inula works in depth on chronic bronchitis and persistent sinusitis.
It must be used with caution due to the lactone content (potentially allergenic). Perform a patch test before first use. Contraindicated in pregnant women and children under 6. For adults, in short courses (10 days), diluted to 5-10%.
It is traditionally used as a complement for spasmodic asthma (in consultation with the physician). Bornyl acetate is antispasmodic without being irritating. In chest rub at 5%, it can help manage mild attacks. Never replaces bronchodilator treatment.
