Cistus ladaniferus
15-35€ / 10ml

Cistus ladanifer grows in the scrublands of Portugal, Spain and Morocco. In summer, its leaves secrete a gum-resin called 'labdanum', used since Antiquity in perfumery and medicine. Egyptians used it for embalming. Greek shepherds harvested labdanum by combing the beards of their goats that grazed in the maquis -- a unique harvesting system in the world. It is the 'liquid bandage' of aromatherapy.
Cistus is one of the very few essential oils with a powerful hemostatic activity (stops bleeding). This property, attributed to viridiflorol and diterpenes, makes it a must-have in the emergency kit. Its complex scent (amber, balsamic) is also highly prized in perfumery as a base note.
Les propriétés listées reposent sur des études in vitro et/ou un usage traditionnel. Sauf mention contraire, elles n'ont pas été validées par des essais cliniques humains rigoureux. Ces informations ne constituent pas un avis médical.

That is its main reputation in aromatherapy: cistus is considered hemostatic (stops minor bleeding). Apply 1-2 drops on a compress placed on a superficial cut. For nosebleeds, put 1 drop on a cotton ball and gently insert it into the nostril.
Yes, it is one of the best anti-aging actives in aromatherapy. It tones the skin, reduces the appearance of wrinkles and helps with skin regeneration. Add 1-2 drops to your serum or to rosehip oil, applied in the evening.
Cistus ladanifer yields very little essential oil, and harvesting in the Mediterranean maquis scrubland is often done by hand. The branches are distilled fresh, which limits transport. Expect to pay 15-35 EUR per 10ml depending on the origin (Portugal, Corsica, Morocco).
