Elettaria cardamomum
8-18€ / 10ml

Cardamom is nicknamed the 'queen of spices' (black pepper being the 'king'). Native to southern India (Kerala mountains), it has been used for 3000 years in Ayurvedic medicine and Indian cuisine. Arabs adopted it for their coffee -- cardamom coffee (qahwa) is a symbol of hospitality throughout the Middle East. Today, Guatemala has become the world's leading producer after German immigrants introduced the plant in the 19th century.
Cardamom essential oil contains a unique balance of 1,8-cineole (anti-infectious, expectorant) and terpinyl acetate (antispasmodic, digestive). This dual profile makes it both a digestive AND a respiratory essential oil, which is rare. It is the oil of choice when a digestive disorder is accompanied by respiratory discomfort (after a heavy meal with bloating AND a feeling of tightness).
