Juniperus oxycedrus
8-15€ / 10ml

Cade (Juniperus oxycedrus) grows in the garrigues of southern France, Spain and Greece. Traditional cade oil is obtained by pyrolysis (slow combustion) of the wood -- an ancestral method. Provencal and Catalan shepherds used it for centuries to treat sheep scab. In folk medicine, it treated psoriasis, eczema and scalp conditions. The scent -- smoky, tarry, animalic -- is immediately recognizable.
Rich in delta-cadinene and alpha-cadinol, sesquiterpenes that are powerfully anti-parasitic and anti-inflammatory for the skin. Compared to common juniper (more diuretic), cade is specifically dermatological. Its smoky scent radically differentiates it. A specialist essential oil for stubborn skin problems -- psoriasis, dry eczema, seborrheic dermatitis.

Cade oil (Juniperus oxycedrus) is obtained by destructive distillation of the wood (pyrolysis), not steam distillation. It has been used for centuries in dermatology for psoriasis, eczema and dandruff. Its tarry scent is very distinctive.
It is a traditional treatment for psoriasis, prescribed by dermatologists for decades. Applied diluted to 5-10% in carrier oil on the plaques, it reduces inflammation and flaking. Also found in specialized shampoos for psoriasis of the scalp.
Traditional cade oil (pyrolysis) may contain potentially carcinogenic PAHs. Modern distilled versions (steam) are safer but less studied for psoriasis. For external use only, on limited areas. Consult a healthcare professional.
