Lavandula latifolia
5-12€ / 10ml

Spike lavender (Lavandula latifolia) grows lower than true lavender, in the low-altitude garrigues of France, Spain and Portugal. Its name comes from the asp viper, because it was traditionally used to treat snake bites. It is the quintessential EMERGENCY essential oil: insect stings, jellyfish stings, minor burns. Provencal beekeepers use it to soothe bee stings.
Spike lavender contains camphor and 1,8-cineole in addition to linalool -- unlike true lavender which does not. These molecules give it rapid antitoxic and analgesic action, but also make it more irritating and contraindicated in children and epileptics.

It is THE first-aid essential oil for all bites (mosquitoes, wasps, jellyfish) and burns. Its camphor and 1,8-cineole provide immediate soothing. Apply 1-2 drops neat on the bite immediately. Repeat every 15 minutes until relief.
Spike lavender (Lavandula latifolia) contains camphor and 1,8-cineole -- it is stimulating and first-aid oriented. True lavender (L. angustifolia) contains linalool and linalyl acetate -- it is calming and versatile. Spike = emergencies. True = relaxation.
Not for children under 6 due to its camphor content (neurotoxic risk in young children). From age 6, it can be used neat on a small area (a bite). True lavender is preferred for children under 6.
