Fragrant wintergreen (Gaultheria fragrantissima) grows in Nepal and China. It is virtually identical to eastern wintergreen (G. procumbens) from North America. Both contain over 95% methyl salicylate and are interchangeable in aromatherapy.
Fragrant wintergreen and eastern wintergreen are practically identical. The choice between the two depends mainly on availability. The same precautions apply: prohibited with anticoagulants and aspirin.

Almost identical. Fragrant wintergreen (Gaultheria fragrantissima, Nepal) and procumbent wintergreen (Gaultheria procumbens, North America) both contain over 95% methyl salicylate. Interchangeable for muscle and joint pain.
Same precautions as procumbent wintergreen: never neat (burns the skin), never on children under 6, contraindicated for aspirin allergy and anticoagulant treatment. Maximum 10-15% in carrier oil. Effective but demanding in use.
3-5 drops in 1 tablespoon of arnica carrier oil, massage muscles and joints before and after exercise. Excellent for soreness, cramps, tendinitis and sprains. Apply with vigorous friction to warm the area.
