Artemisia absinthium
12-25€ / 10ml

Wormwood (Artemisia absinthium) is the plant behind the legendary absinthe liqueur -- 'the green fairy' that drove Verlaine and Van Gogh to madness. Its essential oil contains thujone, the same neurotoxic molecule as common wormwood. Its sale is restricted in France.
Like its cousin Artemisia vulgaris (common wormwood), absinthe essential oil is HIGHLY neurotoxic due to thujone. It is STRICTLY reserved for professional use only. For all practical purposes, there are always safer alternatives.

Yes, extremely. Wormwood (Artemisia absinthium) is rich in alpha-thujone, one of the most potent neurotoxins in the plant kingdom. Seizures, hallucinations, organ damage possible. The most dangerous Artemisia. NEVER use without professional supervision.
Same plant, but the drink absinthe contains minute amounts of thujone (regulated by law). The essential oil is infinitely more concentrated and dangerous. The drink's dangers were historically exaggerated, but the pure essential oil is genuinely toxic.
For very rare professional use (specific antiparasitic) and for the food/drink industry (in controlled trace amounts). For home aromatherapy, there is absolutely no valid reason to use it. Countless safer alternatives exist.
